Security Monitoring and Intelligence Systems

A business-cybersecurity view of monitoring and intelligence — not cameras, alarms, or physical security.

What Is Security Monitoring?

Security monitoring is the continuous observation of security-relevant activity in a business environment: devices, alerts, posture, and events that may indicate a threat. In software, it is a live (or near-live) picture, not a quarterly audit.

This is cybersecurity monitoring. It is not home security, CCTV, commercial alarm monitoring, or a jobs board for guards.

Security Intelligence

Intelligence, in this context, is the extra context that makes monitoring useful: what an event likely means, which device it touches, whether it resembles a known pattern. Intelligence is not a guarantee of attribution. It is an aid to people who have to decide.

Threat Detection

Monitoring without detection is a dashboard. Detection without monitoring is a pile of uncorrelated alerts. They belong together. See the threat detection product page for identifying suspicious activity.

Monitoring and Automation

Automation can keep the picture current and reduce repetitive sorting. It should not be sold as a replacement for review. A monitoring system that nobody trusts is worse than a smaller, honest queue.

Security Operations

Some organisations have a dedicated security function. Many businesses will not. Monitoring software still has to be usable by operations and IT. The design centre is a business team that needs visibility, not a fictional global operations centre.

Security Monitoring Software

The security monitoring software product page covers monitoring, threat visibility, alerts, and the link to detection and response.

How DotlyGuard Approaches Security Monitoring

DotlyGuard treats monitoring as part of the same platform as endpoints, detection, and workplace controls. The aim is one operating picture: what devices exist, what looks unhealthy, and what needs a person to look next.

We do not describe monitoring as physical security, and we do not attach unverified uptime, certification, or customer-count claims to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as home security or CCTV monitoring?
No. This is business cybersecurity monitoring of devices, alerts, and security events — not cameras, alarms, or physical guarding.
How does monitoring differ from threat detection?
Monitoring is the continuous picture. Detection is identifying suspicious activity in that picture. They work together.
Do you need a dedicated security team to use monitoring software?
No. Many businesses will not have a dedicated function. Monitoring still has to be usable by operations and IT.
